Visitors insurance - dishonest customer revealed
If you search for the reviews about a specific insurance company, you may find many reviews and a lot of them may be negative reviews because that is what most people really care to share.

No insurance company is perfect, and some cases may fall into grey areas or some may be stuck in the administrative procedures etc. or there might be miscommunication. That is when Insubuy, as a broker, tries to help our customers.

We were approached with one such case recently where the claim for an elderly lady visiting from India was denied. After hearing the details of the matter over the phone, and looking at her purchase details, it was clear to us that the insurance was purchased after she was already sick. She was in the hospital emergency room on the same day as the date of transaction and the purchase was made later in the evening.

However, to give her the benefit of the doubt, we got the standard privacy release form filled out and requested her to send us the medical records and the communication with the insurance company.

Looking at the information provided to us, other than the fact that the person visited the emergency room on the same day, no further information about the timing was available. We are not sure whether the insured didn't have the records that showed all the timings or they purposely didn't show that to us.

Insubuy worked diligently with the insurance company and found the following details:

Person arrived in the US on: August 9, 2014
Person was in the US till: January 23, 2015
Insurance purchase date/time: December 10, 2014 9:23 PM Eastern Time (6:23 PM Pacific Time).
The insurance purchased from December 10, 2014 to January 9, 2015 (1 month)
Problem started: December 10, 2014 5:30 PM Pacific Time (as per medical records).
Discharged from the hospital: December 10, 2014 8:31 PM Pacific Time
The same insurance was not extended beyond January 9, 2015 till January 23, 2015.

This visitor was already in the U.S. for 4 months and she or her son bought this particular insurance after she fell sick, picked the policy that started the same day and immediately rushed to the emergency room. Obviously, visitors insurance plans are not meant to cover people who are already sick. In fact, no insurance company selling any kind of insurance can afford to pay out already known losses.

We are very glad that the insurance company correctly processed the claim and legitimately declined it. This really helps keep the premiums low for everyone else while paying the genuine claims to people who have legitimate claims.

Moreover, we discovered that all this time, the visitor’s son from USA was communicating through his iPad pretending to be his mother who was already in India.

Many such customers would hide their dishonesty and go ahead and write negative reviews about the insurance company rejecting their claim.

All we can advise to such customers is that anything can happen to anyone at any time. Therefore, you should consider buying visitors insurance before your visitor arrives in the U.S. and keep them insured for the entire duration with the same plan.
