Got my visa approved on aug 6th 2009. This site helped me a lot. Here are the questions I faced

a) How long have you been with XXX?

b)Why are you going to US?

c) What does your client do?

Thanks. All the best. Dress in indian or western formals. Be confident..make eye contact with VO

Hi

I got L1B visa on 28th July 2009.

I went to Hyderabad consulate. My appointment time was 10:00 AM. Security allowed me into consulate at 9:30 AM, after verifying my appointment.

Once after entered into consulate, security persons scanned all the documents for security clearance. After that one they allowed me into the consulate main building.

I have seen couple of counters for certificates verification, as per the guidelines I went to one of the counter. There my documents (appointment, passport, HDFC fee slip, Notification..) Verified. She asked me to put Left hand four fingers on top of the scanner, next she asked me to change the hand to right, and next she asked me to put both thumbs.

After the documents verification I went to waiting hall. There security person had given me the token number. After waiting 15 min.. my token number called for the process

I went to the counter number 12. My QA's are as follows...

Myself: Good morning
VO: Very Good morning

VO: Can you place your right hand thumb on the scanner?
Myself: I did the same

VO: How long you have been working for this company?
Myself: XX months

VO: What are you doing here?
Myself: I explained about my roles and responsibilities which I have mentioned for the petition.

VO: Can I see your documents?
Myself: I handover the documents. She verified my academic documents..

Vo: what’s you annual salary?
Myself: XXXX Rs.

VO: Can I see your notification?
Myself: I handover it.

After verification of the document. She said your VISA has been approved.

My suggestions are:

Be confident and relevant answers.
Nothing to worry...Every thing was cool

Wish you all the best...

H. Rao

Hi guyz,

I am a very late in posting my experience of L1-B visa interview (personnel reasons :)). First of all, my sincere thanks to all those who have posted their experience in this wonderful site which made me fully prepared.
so... for L1-B aspirants...
1)Go through atleast 5 pages of this site. (thats wat i did)
Then repetitions from previous postings :)
2)Smile. Be friendly to other people around you.
3)Be confident (I acted that.. believe me I was tensed like hell)
4)Dress formaly

VO asked me only two questions. She was dressed like an Indian and I think I dressed like an american (Not exactly... I meant 'Formals')
She was looking at me very keenly (I dont know why) ... But i acted very normal.
First question - 'How long i have been in my company'
Second question - 'Purpose of travel'

Then she said the golden words 'Issued. Have a nice day' :)

Hi All,
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience which helped me a ton. Here i too got a chance to share my experience, as i got visa on 29th July.
My Interview was at 9:30 am in the morning, i went there by 8:00 itself. i joined the long queue outside the US Consulate Chennai office.
Then we were allowed to enter the office, first they verified the passport and and allowed in. Security checkup was done, and all our doucments will be verified by the officer next to the security department where they will take our finger impressions. once it is completed, i was directoed towards the visa interview building, there i waited for my turn. my turn has come and these are the questions which i faced in the interview,

Me: Good morning
Interviewer: Good morning

1.Q. What you will do in US?

 A. We are getting a new project Private client Group Under Corporate reporting user interface system project which is a part of commercial insurance of AIG.

2. Q. The interviewer stopped and interrupted me and said , "I didn't hear anything as I. I asked what you will do in US."

 A. We have to populate the data for the new profit center PCG.

3. Q. Officer again interrupted and said, " Till now everything I heard is We only. What you will be doing there?"

 A. Now I understood his intention and I replied as " I have to prepare the new job setup as well as alter the existing job set up to populate the data for new profit center in CRUIS front end. Then I have to load the tables and test it and then confirmation has to be good from the users of PCG whether the loaded data is correct or not.

4. Q. What is your education?

A. B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering

5. Q. How long you are with this client?

A. Three years.

Suggestions:

When the officer asks what you will do in US reply everything as I will be doing this, that etc. They don' want the history as We are getting a new project and then telling what you will do in that is not correct. Directly you can tell what you will be doing.
Speak directly by looking into the eyes of the officer. Say good morning and while leaving back just say have a good day to them.

Hi Friends,

I would like to share the interview experience i had in Hyderabad consulate today. My appointment time is 10.45

1.Initially i had security check asking mine & my wife appointment letter and passport.
2.Then checked all the metal items and our bags. They asked to keep the gum outside which we took that for affixing photographs.. I dont know why.
3.Next in one counter they got the HDFC receipt and blue slip
4. Next counter they asked I-797 form which contains 3 copies (for both me and my wife) and asked Ds-156 form and asked both of us to keep the left and right fore fingers and also both the thumb fingers on the scanner.
5. Next we were in the waiting hall and got a token no.
6. Next we had the interview.

Q1: Asked me to place the index finger on the scanner and my wife thumb finger.
Q2: What is your purpose of travelling?
Q3: For which client u r going to work?
Q4: What work you r going to do there?
He verified the BEP form and read the purpose of travel in that form for about 2 min.
Fianlly he said the visa has been approved and will be sent the visa within 1 week.

Thanks for this forum and founder
Yesterday 20th July I had visa interview at Chennai consulate, my interview scheduled at 10:30 AM, I reached embassy by 10:10AM.
Step-1: Initial security check has been done for my document and password
Step-2: Security check has been done whether I have mobile phone any other electronic equipment.
(My advice is don’t carry any mobile phone any other electronic equipment)

Step-3: Once again security checking my entire document and any sealed envelope cover is with me. I have one unsealed envelop that has given back to me with US - Security seal.

Step – 4: I have placed in Queue their entire documents check has been done and he removed unwanted documents (Justification letter, education documents), he is taken only my passport and I129-S, DS-156, DS-157 and petition letter. I have been asked where is photograph has been taken and when? Then my fingers has been scanned both left and right finger. Thumb finger scanned individually.
(They ask me to go to next building where actual interview is taken).

Step-5: They are calling as per the appointment given 9:45, 10:00. 10:15 and 10:30; again one more ‘Q’. Now it’s my turn. Interview by lady officer

Me: Hi good morning with smile
VO: No Answer
Me: Given the documents
VO: How long you have working for Cognizant?
Me: xx Months
VO: What is your Indian salary?
Me: xx CTS / Annum
VO: Who is your client?
Me: ABC
VO: What ABC does?
Me: Explaining about my project and client.
VO: What you will do with Client?
Me: Explaining about my work and I added my specialized knowledge about the company propriety tools. Be specific about the tools.
VO: Place your left hand index finger in scanner.
VO: your passport will be courier you with weeks of the time.

My advice is
1. Wear the smile till you come out of the Embassy
2. Be confident while your answering
3. Wear light colored shift and dark colored trousers.
4. Don’t try explaining about the project, client, your skill set and your specialized propriety tool until they ask.
5. Answer simple don’t use jargon words

What I observed is they are expecting the justified answer about the Specialization knowledge, , when there is sub question based on your answer, Be confident and answer clearly ..Visa is yours.

I wish you all the BEST.
