My father went for visa this month July 2nd to Chennai. He got 10 years multiple entry. Thank you so much for the guide that you provided online. My mom got 10 years multiple entry 4 years back. She visited 4 years back for 4 months. When my dad went for visa this month he lost my mom passport, which had valid visa for 10 years. When we called chennai consulate they told us to take new appointment and we have provide all documents again and she needs to go back again for new visa. Also they will cancel 10 years multiple entry visa and she needs to get the new visa again.

Please let us know how to approch this kind of situation. Your advice will greatly help us.

Thank you
Padma

My Mom got visitors visa
Thanks to immihelp and everyone to share the experiences.

This time my Mom got 10 yrs multiple entry visa at Bombay consulate in Gujarati interview.

I applied for my parents visitors visa on May 7th, 2008 but they got rejection with 214(b). Then I re-applied for my Mom's visa only. You can also read my experience posted on May 27, 2008 at 11:42:08 AM.

This time interview went for 2-3 minutes only. Normal questions,

1. Who is there in US?
2. What is your son doing?
3. Which company is your son working for?
4. Who else is there in US? (My Mom's two younger brothers and a younger sister is here in US)
5. Has your brother filed your immigration any time in the past? (Answer was NO)
6. Why your husband is not joining you?

My mom answered all the questions with true information only.

They also checked all of the documents properly and finally gave visa. Passport came home in 2 days.

B2-Visa for Mother - self sponsoring tourist.
Hi all, Greetings.
Thanks a bunch to all the contributors of this site. Referring to this website has been tremenously helpful in preparing the case and supporting documents for the B2 VISA applicaion for my mother.
In the past (June-2006), when we were in USA, she had applied for the B2 VISA and been denied one with 214(b).
Now, we (myself, wife and daughter) are in India and we tried her visa as a self-sponsoring tourist (no I-134 and other such sponsoring documents) and she got it for 10 years.
As a reference case for similar aspirants, I have presented below the summary of my mother's experience. (kindly excuse if it is too lengthy and not useful/informative)

On the interview date (17th June 2008), we reached to VFS lounge in Chennai about 75 minutes earlier. The facilities in VFS lounge (otherwise called as Starts & Stripes lounge) are excellent.
There is also a person available to review and comment on the completeness of the documents that you carry.
For my mother, whose interview time was at 12.45PM, the shuttle came and picked her up at 12:30PM

Upon reaching the consulate, she was placed ahead of the people standing in queue at the gate (advantage of availing the VFS lounge facility). After completing the mandatory foramlities such as submiting the VISA fee form and
finger printing, she was waiting in the hall for about 25 minutes before being called by the VO.
It was very crowded on that day; added to that, my mother had opted for interview in Tamil.

VO (or translater): Good Morning
Mother : Good morning

VO (or translater): May I see your application and supporting documents
Mother : Here they are

VO (or translater): Why do you want to go to US?
Mother : As a tourist to see places

VO (or translater): Who lives there in US that you know?
Mother : None. I am going there as a tourist

VO (or translater): How do you plan to sponsor the trip?
Mother : I retired from my services about 8 months back. Got savings + PF money + money in joint account with son

VO (or translater): How many children do u have and where are they?
Mother : I have a son and a daughter;
SOn is working in Chennai and daughter also lives in Chennai with her family.

VO (or translator): I would like to see the employement details of your son and the property that you have in India
[I have attached the bonafide certificate from my current organization, my business card, my recent payslips, and Power of Attorney that I have given to my mother on the property that I own in Chennai]
VO spent about 3 minutes going over these documents and did not ask for any other docs further. He greeted my mother and told that she would get her passport through courier in couple of days.

P.S:
I have prepared (organized the whole set of documents) and arranged in the order as specified below:

About the applicant
-------------------
  Cover Letter
  Visa fee, application (DS-156), passport
  Family photo

Financial detail
----------------

     - Letter from myself, (that I do not have objection in my mother using the money in the joint account)
     - Statements for the past 6 months; and annual statements for past 3 years

Tie-up in India
---------------
Deed of the property in Chennai
     - including the Power of Attorney that I have provided to my mother
  Proofs of Pension
     - Pension book
  Entire family is in India
     - Family photo

     - Going there as a touris
