A. I have been working for the last 1 year 10 months.

A. I dint have the appointment letter. But luckily i had the Original Reference Letter from my company stating that i have been working since xyz date as pqr. The Officer was satisfied with that.

5. Which project are you working for?
A.Told him the details about my project.

10 yrs visa granted to parents at mumbai consulate after 2 refusals
Hi All,

First of all I would like to thank everyone who have posted their experiences here. They were of tremendous help to us.

My parents were rejected twice in 2004 and I was really hesitant to ask them to reapply this year, since the chances of them getting a visa were so less. I am their only daughter and my father is retired, my mother housewife plus they were already rejected. But a number of experiences from others on this forum boosted my morale and I prepared all the documents for them as suggested here.
We prepared three files 1. Visa papers (All the forms necessary for the visa)
2. Sponsor documents (All our documents - copies of Green Crads, passport, pay stubs, tax returns, employment letters and an invitation letter that clearly said that they won't become a public burden once they come here, we will bear all their expenses)
3. Visitors documents (All property documents of my parents - I made my father prepare an affidavit of all his property on a Rs. 100 stamp paper, also suggested on this website, statements from his bank about his pension).

I had prepared them well for a number of likely questions for the interview based on experiences here. The day of interview (29th MAy)they were asked the following questions (they did take an interpreter this time unlike the last time although both can communicate in English very well)

Q1. Why are going to US?
A. To see my daughter, grand daughter and to see some places in and around NY
Q2. Where did you work before retirement?
A. My father's appropriate answer
Q3. How many kids do you have?
A. Only one daughter (We had decided that under any circumstances we would not mention about my younger sister who had passed away in an accident many years back, this would be irrelevant now anyway)
Q4. How many years is she in US?
A.xxxx yrs
Q5. So if she is your only daughter why will you come back?
A. And my fathers voice shook- but still he answered - I am 70 yrs. old now, I have enough pension, property in India and at this age I am not willing to adjust myself to a new life, rather I don't think I can. I have had a very happy life in India, that is where I belong and I want to come back, its just that we want to see our daughter's life style and be with her after many years that we want to go there. (He started to remove his property documents to show the counselar officer but she asked him not touch them as she did not want to see them)
Q6. How long do you want to stay in US?
A. 2 months
After this the counselar officer said that if they stay for more than two months it will be a problem for them later. And my father responded saying that he won't becuase 2 months is more than enough for their visit.

She just said "your visa is granted" and that they will recieve their passports in mail.

It was such a relief for all of us to hear that. I would have been happy even if it was a 2 month visa, since their getting to come and stay with us meant so much for us. After 2 days when they got the passport in mail they had a stamp for 10 yrs! It was more than anyone could ask for.

They will be visiting us this summer. I wish this experience would be helpful to everyone in a similar situation. Just be honest and hope for the best.

Thanks again to every one
NADesai

parents got visa today
Hi... I am posting my parent's visa interview experience for the benefit of others. My parents atttended the visa interview in Hindi language at Chennai consulate today and were asked the follwing to my mom and dad:
Dad: Why do you want to visit USA?
Mom: Where is your daughter located?
Mom: Where is your son located and what does he do (this was helpful to them because my brother is in Chennai with his family).
Mom: Is your daughter married?
Mom: What does your son-in-law do?
Mom: Show me the documents that your daughter sent.
Mom: What is your annual salary? (This was again helpful because my mom is a Central Govt employee).
Mom: Where does your daughter work?

The visa officer did not ask for any documents from them except for the documents that I sent across as a sponsor for their travel.

visitor visa for parents
parents attended on 10 th june for B2 visa in chennai consulate. they got their visa.
just have to wait for the passports to know for how many years.
didn't ask too many questions , though we prepared them thoroughly , by reading others experiences in this website. it was very helpful as we prepared all documents according to the list given in this website.
read as many peoples experiences as possible ,since there are innumerable , formulated questionaire and rehearsed for past 2 weeks. though they didn't ask too many quesitons , it was helpful to build confidence , that they can answer any question.

questions were only to dad:
VO: so u are going to usa to visit ur daughter and son-in-law.
DAD: yes sir, and also to visit tourist attractions in east coast.

1. where do u work
A. company name (he is in Business-Construction company)
2. working since how many years
A. past 8 years

he went through the sponsor documents which dad handed them all at the beginning itself. he took a look at the employment letter and my husbands passport. that's it. said passport will be delivered in courier.

our experience..good one
Hi all, first of all, thanks a bunch to the website creator/moderator for their wonderful piece of work in putting together virtually evry fine details about the process. My sister and mother applied for B2 visitor visa thru kolkata consulate. Plz note that they barely can communicate in english (so we requested for hindi translator in 156 form). here is the experience.
had couple of counters in the begining, submitted pertinent documents as asked (passport, form 156/157, finance docuemnts, i sent them form I-134 with my notarized signature).
questions asked

to my mother (in hindi): how many kids? how many of them in US
REPLIED TWO IN US, THEY ASKED IN DETAIL ABOUT other brother in US
just one question, then they turned to my sister
q. where are going
a. city, usa
q. what ur other brother in US do,
a. answered, also mentioned that he got his visa in kolkata (which my sister mistakingly said as my brother got his passport from kolkata but visa from mumbai). they took almost 1 min in verifying, mumbeled among themselves, but didnot asked anything further
q.what do u do
a.completed the study, currently looking for job
q. so u r not going to usa for study
a. no i have completed my studies and planning for my marriage in india
q. if u are going to usa, who will take care of ur marriage in india
a. i have no finalized yet, my father is currently taling to 4-5 guys, he will be taking care of that while i am in us
q. when r u planning to marry
a. probably in nov/dec of this year
interestingly no questions asked about me, neither anything asked about financial documents (i send I-134 and my bank staements, job contract letter and invitation letter)

final q: how long u wanted to stay in us
a. 3 months, but 6 months visa will give us more flexibility to visit other places in US
IO smiled and told to collect passport in mail.

outcome: multiple entry visa for ONE YEAR for both my sister and mother

total inetrview session lasted for probably 3-4 mins, everything thru communication in Hindi (with the help of lady translator). thank you all, i usually a silent observer of this forum, but decided to post my experience this time to help other. (although i heard a lot of negative things about kolkata, but now i think, immigration officer are very genuine in their decision making process, of course, our luck factor always plays a role)

Parents did not get visitors visa at Bombay Consulate
Hi,

I am Hiren Patel, currently at New Jersey, US. I had my parents visitors visa stamping at Bombay Consulate on May 7th-2008. They got rejection under Immigration Act 214(b) [Intending Immigrant Provision]. Following was the scenario.

I am the only son and have 3 sisters. I am the only one here in US and all my sisters are in India. My elder sister is married and settled in Surat, Gujarat. I have two younger sisters [both unmarried].

My Father's real sister is in USA [via Immigration visas] and My Mom's two brothers and a Sister is here in USA [via Immigration visas]

We had interview in Gujarati at Bombay consulate.

Questions asked to my Dad (my dad is self employed):

1. Whom are you visiting? - My Son [Hiren]
2. What is he doing in US? - Working as programmer
3. Employer details
4. What are you doing? - Self employed as Govt Approved Contractor
5. What is your income? - 1 Lakh (annual)
6. Who else is there in US? - My dad told that his sister is here.
7. What is she doing? - She is working in Laundramat.

Questions asked to my mom (my mom is house wife):
1. Who else is there in US? - My mom mentioned that her Brother and Sis are there.
2. What are they doing? - Own business
3. How long do you want to be there? - 3 Months
4. Why not 6 months? - My mom told that I have two unmarried daughters whom I should take care of and also 3 Months are enough for us to visit US and meet Hiren for a while.

Finally ----> Rejection

I am planning to retry. Any suggestions are most welcome.
