Visa was refused
This is very helpful site for those who are trying to U.S.
I am from Lahore, Pakistan. Yesterday I and my wife apply for second time for B1 & B2 visa although we read all the questions that are available on website and we are accepting that may visa was granted at this time but unfortunately we were refused. I don't know the exact reason kindly tell me the reason why we were refused.
VO: Good morning
We: Good Morning (We feel that he is in good mode although he is not granted a single visa to anyone in front of us).
VO: Why you want go to U.S?
Ans: - For pleasure tourism and want to see some tourist attractions.
VO: - Which places you want to go?
Ans: - we would like to see statue of liberty, Manhattan, Niagara Falls, American's first national park.
VO: - what are you doing?
Ans: - I am businessman.
VO: - what type of business?
Ans: - I own a steel tube and pipe factory import raw material from different countries and produce finished product here and sale to local market and exports.
VO: - Which name?
Ans: - I said YYYY YYY Pipe Mills (Pvt) Ltd.
VO: - How many employees are working in your factory?
Ans: - about 60 to 70 workers.
VO: - What is your designation in you PVT LTD Company?
Ans: - I am director.
VO: - How many directors in your company?
Ans: 5 directors.
VO: - Its mean you are five partners?
Ans: - Yes we are five but all are family members.
VO- hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
VO: Are you married?
Ans: - Yes I am married.
VO: How long?
Ans: Jan-2006.
VO: - Do you have any children?
Ans: - No we don't.
VO: - Your Wife is Student and house wife?
Ans: - Yes she is student and house wife.
VO: - Let me check!
Then he is checking on his computer and I don't know what he is doing on the computer after a minute he stamp my forums and said sir you are not qualified at this time and he refused us.
I asked a question on which grounds we are refused? He said you both are two young and you don't have strong ties. I argue that sir I am paying about 1-Million Tax/month and you said that I am don't have strong ties. He said that's very nice if you are paying a huge tax. At the end we are back.
Can you tell me what the reason behind our refusal is?

Thanks!

How long can I stay in the USA
We would like to stay in the USA as much as possible, we are retired Brits, we stay no longer than 90 days have return tickets and proof of funds. On our last visit we were given a hard time by immigration because this was our 3rd long stay visit in a year there appears to be no legal definition of how many days you can stay and I have had hundreds of conflicting conversations with people with opinions of how to best stay without abusing the rules. Help !!!

Successful B2 Visa
Thanks for immihelp for providing info. My Dad had his B2 visa interview on Oct 16,2007 @ 8:00 AM and he had a very good experience. He took the interview in a regional language. VO and the interpreter both were male and he was just asked 4 questions.

1. Which company and what position is yr son working?

2. How many kids do you have?

3. How much is yr pension monthly and yearly?

4. What is yr income here in India?

After this the VO said you are granted visa and yr passport will be couriered to U. My Dad got his passport the next day and it is the 10 yr multiple entry visa.

I had asked my Dad to answer confidently and look at his eyes and give answers. I had sent my Dad every single document that you can think of and he had very good idea of what each one is. For most of the questions my Dad volunteered if the VO wants to see the docs, but the VO said no need. The VO never saw a single doc.

Dad mentioned that the consulate was very crowded and that there were several rejections for women who came alone and answered poorly.

Having said all this I firmly believe that this whole immigration system of the US is a joke and it is worst than the 3rd world. I really feel for people who are rejected without even given a chance to explain or produce the docs. How in the world would they reject someone without even looking into their merits or demerits. It is a farce!! Chances of getting a visa of any type(not only B2) is a luck and depends on the mood of the VO. This to me doesn't make any sense.

Bottomline if someone here in this forum is advising you after rejection that you have to prepare well next time..... It is B.S What the heck are you supposed to prepare when the VO just asks you a single question and doesn't look into the docs and summarily rejects that person. Having said that I also don't agree with lack of preparation on the part of the candidate. For example: My Dad said that there was a lady who when asked by the VO where yr son works? She responded by saying everything is there in the form. This is mainly due to the lack of understanding and preparation by the sponsor to their parent.

Also someone in this forum said that it is close to impossiible to get a visitor visa if you are a GC holder. belony...... I'm a GC holder and I know several of my collegues are the same and every single one of them has succesfully got B2 visa for their in-laws and parents. So please stop posting misinformation. Just give the facts and mainly tell both sides of the story. Not just what is politically correct. Say things that will work practically.

Good Luck Everybody!!

===============================================

Interview for my in-laws (ENGLISH) - 24-sep-07
Whats your designation?
What do you do n your job?
whats your monthly income?
How many years of service is still remaining? (2 years)
When did your son go to US?
when did he return recently?
Can you show me his employment letter?
How long would you stay in US? - (6 months but as its winter, we might return early.)

My MIL -
when did you get married?
How many children to you have?
Where are they?

Give me your son's passport copy please. VO gone thru all the documents and informed that the visa is approved. enjoy your stay with your son.
My FIL even asked the VO that he got his payslip but VO said its not required. Actually there was a mistake in the marriage date said by MIL. but she didnt correct it and looked confident in front of VO.

The interview was on monday and the passports reached my in-laws by thursday.

===============================================
The actual appointment for my parents was on 1-oct-07 but because of the undeclared bandh in chennai, it was postponed to 4-oct-07. There was an email and also phone call informing the same. Interpreter was available, but late.

Interview for my parents (TELUGU) - 04-Oct-07
Whats your designation?
What do you do?
whats your monthly income?
How many years of service is still remaining? (6 years)
When did your daughter go to US?
when did she return recently?
Which university did she study?
Who will support you financially in US?
Would you get 6 months leave? - yes, I got the permission letter and showed it to VO
Can you show me her employment letter?

No questions asked to my mom.

VO asked for my passport copy and then informed that the visa is granted for 10 years and it will be couriered.
My parents village didn't had the Bluedart courier service and so the passports were sent to Hyd somajiguda in 3 days. My dad went and collected the passports by showing the appointment letter and their own passport copies.

===============================================

BAD INCIDENT - In the appointment letter info, it was clearly informed that under medical reasons, we can take the photo with glasses. But when my in-laws went inside, one of the person in the counter said that they need it without glasses. so they were taken to nearby kodak photo shop by autowala and got the photos without glasses. They were charged 200/- per person for a set of 6. (Though we need 1 photo, the photoshop fellow still gave 6 of them) and the auto fellow charged 100/- for a distance of 30/-. When my inlaws went inside, they were directed to another counter and the new VO said they need not take the photos without glasses. SO its a big waste of 500/- just for nothing. Both that auto wala and the photoshop fellow are in contract for this type of cases.

Caution - Take both photos of with and without glasses. It will cost lot more less in our local areas than near consulate.

Other incidents while my parents were there -
1) A girl has come for her student visa. DS-156 was written in-hand which was commented very badly by VO and asked to get it in electronic format. again the auto fellow jumped into picture, took her to nearest internet cafe. Each print out was charged 60/- and the auto fellow was demanding 300/-. so be aware.
2) One elder couple has come for visitor visa in telugu, his son is citizen and visited other countries. When VO asked if their son visited any other countries they said no. it was a rejection. ---- Parents was not prepared properly.
3) Another person has come with his son's papers. VO asked no questions, checked the passport copies of his son and informed that the documents are not unique and rejected the case.

There was a lot of preparation of documents and interview questions to both our parents. We repeatedly sent them the recent questions pasted in immihelp and asked them to be confident and always say the truth. we also prepared them if the visa is rejected thats not their problem and it is always luck. So I wish Good Luck to all of you !

Parents got 10 year visa in Chennai on October 3rd
I would like to share my experience here so it can benefit others. My parents were initially sent back for re-scheduilng due to red-eyes inspite of their denial and explaining that it was due to long distance travel. Only my dad had little bit redness in his eye. But they recommended a doctor certificate to be sure.

I saw in the consultate website to email consulate to get expedited appointments. I did so only expecting a slim chance of their reply. But they did reply me the next day with an appointment slot within a week.

The following questions were asked:
1. How long have you been doing agriculture
2. What types of crops are you cultivating
3. What is your annual income
4. How many children
5. Where is your son working here
6. What does your duaghter do
7. What is the purpose your visit

The VO lady said you will receive your passport within a week.

Afterall I got visa
My visa was rejected two times in 2005.The exact reason I could not guess ,though it was given as 214(b).That time I consisely answered only , to the specific questions.I did not give the detailed explaination.
This time I went wel prepared according to the tips from Immehelp.Though they have mentioned that, give answers to the point,I elaborated some of the quetions. You must stress your positive points ,though they are not asked.
Consulate... Why your visa was rejected last time?
I... Actually I dont know the reason. But might be the officer have thought that ,I may not come again to India.
Consulate... I also think the same.
I ... ( Elaborated ) I am having my younger son in India ,who is still studying his post graduate and is partly dependent on me.My old mother and elder unmarried sister are also fully depenent on me and living with me.I had to take care of them.(Shown the family photo )I had to come back soon for them.I am also having some immovable propery like my hospital premises, one bunglow, one open plot .....(shown the photo of my hospital with myself and my wife standing in front of it.)I am having busy practice and can not afford to go any where as a tourist for more than two months.I was past president of IMA,Rotary Club, and Chairman of co-operative bank.(Shown the visiting card).
Consulate... ok..ok..ok..Mr.Joshi.I will grant you the visa this time.
I..... Oh..thaks a lot.Today is the Birthday of my wife and you have given her fantastic gift by issuing the visa.
Consulate...( Laugh)

Self Sponsor - Mother got 10 year visa at mumbai consulate
My mother went today along with my Brother to the Mumbai consulate for her visa interview.

We are three brothers and my Mom is a widow and a housewife. I am here on H1 (F1 to H1) and my second brother just came here a month back on F1. So we were bit worried.

Additionally, I did not want to sponsor my Mom because I thought she had enough assets/income to show that she could sponsor herself and my brother in India. So I did not send any sponsorship papers.

We had also made a mistake in choosing the language as English when my mother is not so comfortable in conversing. As soon as they enetered the consulate, my brother requested for a marathi translator for my mother but they declined as they did not have anyone then.

The interview was as follows:

VO to my Bro and Mom: Good Morning:
Bro and Mom: Good Morning

VO to my Brother: When are you planning to go to US?
Bro: Mid November

VO to my Mom: Do you speak English?
Mom: No

VO started asking all questions to my Brother,
VO: How many Brothers do you have?
Bro: Three including me.

VO: Where are your other two Brothers?
Bro: They are both in US.

VO: What is your age?
Bro: answered

VO: What is their age?
Bro: answered

VO: What are they doing in US?
Bro: One is on H1 working in ___ company and the other is doing his MBA from _____ college.

VO: How long do you want to go to US?
Bro: I have one month leave so about a month or so.

VO: Where are you working?
Bro: ____ company

VO: Has your company given you leave?
Bro: Yes. (They did not ask for the leave letter but my brother was carrying it)

VO to my Mom: Can you speak in English?
Mom: No.

VO called someone who spoke Hindi and the guy asked three questions to my Mom in Hindi.

VO: Who do you stay with?
Mom: My one son.

VO: How many sons do you have?
Mom: Three

VO: What is their age?
Mom: __ __ __. The VO smiled as all three of us are born a year later than each.

VO: How long do you want to go to US?
Bro: One month or so.

VO to my Mom: I am giving you the Visa but make sure you'll don't stay more than 6 months because then it might cause a problem to you and your sons there.

Bro and Mom: Thank you.

We were afraid that they might just get 6 month visas but were exteremly happy to see that both got 10 years multiple entry visas.

I had asked my Mom to carry a lot of Documents but not a single one was asked. No questions about income though my Mom is a widow. I guess one should be very thruthful when answering questions. It never even crossed my mind to hide the fact that me and my brothers are here in US. I guess it paid off.
