B1/B2 Visa Experience
Hi,
I recently got my B1/B2 visa with 10 Years multiple entry from Chennai.

Just wanted to share a few experiences with you all who are going for their B1/B2.

Landed in Chennai the previous night, i had my appointment the next day at 10:30 am.

I reached the venue at around 9:30 am, the good thing now is that a person need not come hours before and wait for his appointment, merely comming around 20 minutes earlier should suffice, after entering, my documents were verified by VFS and i was directed to proceed for the interview.

The point to note here is that it is very important to make sure that every field in DS 156, and DS 157 are neatly filled, especially the Name (in Native Language) field, the Approx date of travel field etc, the name in native language cannot be left blank nor can the name be written in English.
Another good idea would be to get the relevant documents in 2 seperate transperent plastic folders neatly labelled so that its very easy to retrieve a particular in the least time.
After the VFS check, the actually waiting time would start, so it would be a good idea to drink some water (eat a good breakfast before comming ! ) and wait...
After quite a bit of waiting, my batch was allowed to enter the main building, and finally my interview turn came :
It is very important to have a pleasant attitude and address the interviewer.
All i was asked was how long i was working at my present org, what my salary was and what does my conpany do ?
Please note, it is very important to know exactly know what your organization does ? What sort of products they develop ? etc. It is good to be able to reply to the questions asked in a short and preceise manner, it is not good to appear nervous or to recite answers.
After these questions, i was granted a visa with 10 years multiple entry.
The passport reached me within 2 days.
All in all a good experience.
I hope my 'essay' has helped and will help future visa applicants, wish you all the very best .

Stranded in the US
I married a "citizen" but later found out her N 400 was rejected. I came to the US on a B2 (visitors) visa; which will be expiring on August 6th of 2007 (it is a ten year multiple entry visa, valied till 2017). Now my wife is severely illtreating me and she has made me spend all the money I had brought from India. I want to get back to India before August 6th of 2007. Whome should I contact for help?

Mom received 10 years Multiple entry visitor’s visa in 2nd attempt
Interview was in Telugu. Telugu translator was present this time. VO was a male. VO was able to understand little bit of Telugu.

Main changes from last attempt:
1. In DS 156 form this time answered 2 months, for question #26 “How long do you intend to stay in the USA?” (In first attempt we requested for 6 months)
2. Also, in DS 156 form I did not answer to the question #22 “When do you intend to arrive in the USA? (provide specific date if known)” (last time I said July 1st).
3. Mom gave Affidavit of Assurance to the VO along with her passport, DS 156, DS 157 forms, HDFC receipt and interview appointment letter. (Affidavit of Assurance stated the reasons in bullets why she intended to come back).

Mom: Good morning
VO: Good Morning
VO: When do you plan to visit USA?
Mom: End of July or early in August.
VO: How many Children?
Mom: 2, 1 son and 1 daughter
VO: Who is in USA?
Mom: Daughter is USA, Son is in India
VO: What does your son do?
Mom: Son is a partner in a Real Estate development firm, he lives in Hyderabad
VO: Is your son married?
Mom: No, he is getting married in November.
VO: What does you husband do?
Mom: My husband cultivates XX acres of agriculture land
VO: What is your age?
Mom: XX years (mom is in her mid forties)
VO: Can I see your ration card?
Mom: (handed over the ration card)
VO: Can I see your passbooks?
Mom: (handed over the bank passbooks)
VO: Your visa is granted. You will receive your passport in 2-3 days by courier.
Mom: Thank you
(VO did not ask for any of the sponsors documents)

1st Attempt: May 2nd 2007
Mom's visa was rejected under 214(b).
VO was a lady. Even though, my mom opted for Telugu interview, there was no translator present. But, VO managed to speak in Telugu (not well versed though).

Mom: Good morning
VO: Good morning
VO: What does your husband do?
Mom: Agriculture
VO: How many kids?
Mom: 2, son and daughter
VO: Who is in India?
Mom: Son is in India
VO: What does your son do?
Mom: Real Estate
(No documents were checked)
VO: Your visa is rejected.

(Pulled a 214(b) visa rejection letter from a pile, and gave it to mom).

Parents got visa (chennai consulate)
Thanks to immihelp admin, and other members who helped us with documentation preparation. We prepared all the docs as per the checklist provided in this website.

Background:
1) Both children are in US (son & daughter). Son sponsored the trip. Both son & daughter are on H1 visa.
2) Father is retired, and mother a housewife (ages 60, & 53)
3) Duration of Stay was specified as 4 months.

Appointment was in "Telugu" language, at 9:15 am on 26th June at Chennai Consulate

Questions asked (to my dad):

1) What do you do?
My dad answered that he takes care of his properties(houses) and investments.
2) What does your son do?
3) What does your daughter do?
4) What is your daughter-in-law's name?
5) Who will take care of your mother when you visit US?
(This question was asked to my mother, to which she answered that she requested her sister to take care.)
6) The translator said: congratulations your visa has been approved.

My parents submitted a letter addressing the consulate, requesting for visitor's visa. They put the letter on top along with DS-156 forms & passports file. The VO read the letter & handed it back to my parents.
No documentation was asked for.

We are yet to know if they got single entry or 10 yrs multiple entry visa.

Interview insults
Hi, going through the experiences of some, i would like to narrate some of my experiences at US consulate, Chennai. I was standing in line at the interview counter for my H1b stamping. The line next to mine had a young american officer wearing glasses who was very rude to almost every one in his line mostly middle aged people. He was shouting and throwing the papers back at these helpless people. The visa officer from another counter came to him calling him some thing like Judsun or Jaysun "what happened". this officer shouted saying " i have a F__K__G Indian priest at my counter" this shocked us all who were standing in the line. This is disgusting behaviour from the so called 1st world citizens ( with third class mentality).
