L1B Dependant Visa
Hello All,

I will be applying for L1B visa. My assignment in US is only for 6 months. I intend to take my family (wife and 2 kids) to US for the last 3 months of my stay. Is it advisable to apply for their visa along with mine? What are the issues if I were to apply for their visa after I get mine (hopefully - touchwood).

My seconds son's name is misprinted on the passport and I need to sort it out. On the other hand I need to be in US as soon as possible. Hence the question.

Your response will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have appiled L1B visa.
I want to know, whether i can apply dependent visa for my husband and kid seperately.
Or this should happen along with my Visa process.

L1B got rejected
My L1 B visa got rejected today..All questions are expected ,but I think specialized skill matters. He asked me following qns..
How long you are working in this company?
Whats your designation?
How much is your current salary?
Why do you want to go to US?
What is your specialized skill?
Then he asked me to wait for a moment and left the cabin(I think he was discussing with someone).
VO told "I can not approce your VISA under L1 category. You still can go to US by applying a visa in a different category".

I got my L1B approved today.

I clearly see the following factors play a major role

1) Your company - if yours is a US company you have an upper hand

2) Salary in India - this was asked to every candidate.
Most of those whom I observed had a pay of 9-12 lakhs per annum

3) Specialization - if you use vague terms, they wont believe. Keep it short and specific. You cannot say I specialize in a tool - I heard this many times - to me if train a person in a tool, he/she can pick it up soon (considering he/she is smart)
You got to specialize in a process, technology, product - always has a better impression

4) Education - A candidate studied his MS in Mechanical Engg and works on IT - now, this is so strange is I was Visa officer - what is the point?

Most of them are not aware of the requirements of L1B - especially blanket. You have no choice but to prove you have special skills that no one in US can do. If you are not confident - I suggest you apply for individual petition.

L1A Visa Approved at Chennai Consulte Today 02/04
First of ALL, Thanks to Immi Help.

This site was really helpful in preparing for my visa interview.

Today I had visa interview and went like this...

Here are the questions VO asked me.

1) What is your experience in YYYY company?
2) Where are you travelling to?
3) How many people will report to you in US?
4) What kind of work they do?
5) Who is your client?

Then came golden words: Your visa has been approved, have a nice trip.

Key things are the way you prepare for the interview and how you present it there.

All the best!

L1B approved - chennai
Thanks immihelp for providing this platform. This site has helped me a lot for preparing for my interview.

Most imp Qs are specialization & salary. pls prepare well on that front. Rest Qs are easy , like do u have any other US visa stamped, total experience, experience with current company, salary, from which city u came from for interview, whr ur husband works.

Key is to give the specialization ans good and try to control your nervousness (which is difficult when u r surrounded by all H/L visa candidates :) ...but still try ur best)

Lastly leave everything on God :)

L1 B Visa Approved
Hello Everyone,

This website really helped a lot in understanding how we need to prepare for the Interview. I appeared for the interview at the new Consulate at BKC in Mumbai. For a 10:00 interview, I reached at 9:00 and had to wait in the queue for an hour.
After all the initial processes, I appeared for the interview. The lady at the consulate was speaking in a loud and clear manner so did not find any issues in understanding any of the questions.
The interview went as follows:
Me: Hello
Int: Hello
1) How long have you been working for YYYY ?
Gave the no. of years worked at onsite and at offshore.
2) What is your client company?
YYYY
3) What project will you be working on?
Since I had been appearing for L1 B which is a specialized visa, this was a crucial question. Provided a brief description on the background of the project.
4) How much will you be earning in the US?
$#####
5) Do you consider it fare?
Yes.
Your visa has been approved.
Me: Have a good day!!
Int: You too.

The key is to be calm and maintain eye contact and answer as positively as possible.
Prepare for all types of questions related to the specialized knowledge as it is the most important factor which decides whether u make it or break it.

L1B visa approved on 30th Mar'12 at Chennai
Hi,

First of all, thank you to everybody who has shared his/her experiences on this website which really helped me (and I am sure many others too) in preparing for the interview.

My appointment was scheduled for 9:00 however I reached the visa office early at around 7:45. After the initial proceedings (documents submission and fingerprints) which took almost 45 minutes, I was asked to join the queue for the interview. I waited for almost an hour before my turn came. The questions asked were similar to the ones that many users have already posted. i am listing the same for the benefit of others.

VO: Where are your going in the US?
Me: I mentioned the city and state.

VO: What is your salary in India?
Me: Told him my per annum salary.

VO: Will you be working for your company (which is transferring me to US) or clients?
Me: I will be working on project for a client.

VO: Which Client?
Me: XYZ

VO: What will you do?
Me: Here I told him about my specialization, job duties in my current organisation and said that I will be performing similar duties in US.

VO: So what is your specialized knowledge?
Me: I again told him my specialization.

VO: Have you done similar projects?
Me: Told him I have done similar projects for clients before and gave him the client name.

After this the visa officer did not ask any questions and was busy typing something in his computer. Then he told me the golden words "Your visa is approved, you will receive the passport in a weeks time". I thanked him and left the consulate.

Some tips from me:

Be well dressed for the interview, helps you stand out from the crowd.
Greet the visa officer.
Be confident and try to smile (I am not sure if I did though).

All the best to everybody who applies for the visa. Hope you find this helpful.

My last suggestion....PLEASE TAKE IT EASY GUYS!!

Regards,
AM
