Green Card Restamped - San Jose - HELP

Hi:

My wife and I received our green card thru CP last year and the POE was SFO on 12/10/01. As expected, the plastic card has not arrived yet and we'll be visiting India. Since we'll be back after 12/10/01, I have the following questions:

1. Do we have to extend the GC before we leave the country.
2. Can we extend it from San Jose INS office ?
3. What kind of paperwork will be needed to have that stamped ?
4. Any experience doing this will be appreciated.

Hi,

I am in the same boat. Following things I came to know from one of my friends who has
got I551 restamped from INS san jose.

You need passport with the stamp and tell at the counter that it is a CP case and card
is not received in mail. Also its better to carry any docuemnt support you got.

Should be ok, except standing in the long Q outside of INS office.

You *have* to get it extended,Just take Passport and thats it.You should plan to go early to avoid any Qs.
