Hi,

After CP one need to enter USA before the date mentioned on the Visa. My question is after entering USA and getting I-551 ( ???) stamped in passport can one leave USA immediately, say within week or so and return back to USA after 4-5 months. How long does it take to get reentry permit ?.
My employer has got project in UK as well and he wants me to work on that for 5-6 months and then come back to US.
Can any one suggest any better way ?.

The standard rules of keeping your permenant status alive apply if you leave and re-enter.

I think you have to show at least 6+ months a year in residence within the country to keep you GC alive.

If you will be going out for a period greater than 6 months you need to apply for a Permit ( I forgot the name -- Its valid upto 2 years max)

By all means you can leave freely and return as long as its less than 6 months after stamping at any time you want to.

Does it mean, eventhough I haven't received my cards I can leave USA and comeback within 6 months ?.
I got my CP done last month. I am planning to enter USA next month ( This time I will get I-551 stamped in
my passport) and leave immediately after 2-3 weeks
and enter again within 6 months. During 2-3 weeks of my stay in USA I would like to apply for re-entry permit to make sure that if my stay gets extended in UK I still get to enter USA after that.
Would this plan will cause any problem.
