How much exemption? [Archive]

Hi All
I am on H1. My wife (with H4) joined me in Sep2005. I received my W2 today. What is the exemption I get and how much do I get back?
i.e. is it the value in the box 2 or 4 or 6? Or what percentage of them?

There is no way to answer that question like that. You will know only when you file the tax returns.

Thank you for the response. I believed there is a fixed percentage of the tax that will be exempted when you file together. My question was if federal tax I paid for the year 2005 was $10000, and state tax $4000; now I claim the exemption for my spouse, howmuch I would get back. Will your answer still holds good?
