Worried about the status of application

I had made apost earlier reagrding this. I missed my fingure print appointment for Citizen ship since I was in India. When I came back I send back the application for rescheduling the appointment. But I send it by regualr post. So i have no ides if it reached there. Also I did not keep a copy of my receipt /case number.
I called INS and they sid even if I had the recipt number, I might not be able to see this information (as to whether they received my reschedule request or not)
Is that true??
Also if they didn't receive it and they decide to cancel our application, would they send us a notification on cancellation letter??
