I read that in some places oath cermony is on the same day as interview. In California is this the way also?

I know for a fact that they give an option of being sworn in on the same day in Virginia and Georgia. I do not see a reason why the policy may be different elsewhere....

I was wrong in assuming that oath process may be same and one can take oath on the same day at all locations, based on my experience from Atlanta and a friend's from VA. In some locations, the oath is administered on a different day and could take as long as 2 months or more.

Oath ceremony is conducted on certain days. If you happen to be there that day for the interview, great, you lucked out, otherwise you need to wait for the letter. This is the way it is done in all the USCIS offices. There just is no way of knowing if there is one that day or not, no one will tell you beforehand.
