Hi, I am a permanent resident with an expirationless green card issued in 1991.

Since 2003 I've been working abroad for the United Nations (hired from New York).
I have been returning every 5 months or so, always being gone less than six months. My job with the UN ended in October of 2005. Since then I have continued to remain abroad but returning and planning to return every 5 months. Each of my returns to the US have lasted for between one to three weeks.

I own property in the US, file my taxes yearly and have all my money and bank accounts there.

I would like to know if my green card is in danger of being revoked if I continue this trend for a while longer???

I'm also interested in applying for citizenship but am not sure if my time abroad but with the UN counts as a break in my continuous presence in the states or not.

Appreciate your response.

Thank you.

Did you ever file for a reentry permit? As far as I know, as long as each of your trips out of the US is less than 6 months, your continuous residence is still valid. However, a reentry permit is useful to prove that you eventually intend to return to the US, even if your single trips are not more than a year in duration.

I thought that one could stay out of the country for up to a year once the conditions were removed. Isn't the 6 month limitation only for the 2 year card?

The six month cap is for both CR and PR status.
