I have a nephew who's had his green card for 6 years now. However, his first year he was studying in a Canadian University. After the first year, he transferred to an American Univ. He came back to the U.S. for all his vacations, some weekends etc so he was never out for more than 3 months. But with the school and studies, he was out for 7 months total during that year.

He has been in the U.S. for the last 5.5 years now. Will being out for 7 months in his first year of his permanent residence affect his eligibility to apply for citizenship?

Thanks again,
Gabby
