I am from Denmark, and have been training with a company in Michigan for several months. They have offered to hire me on an 18-month J1 Visa. I have returned to my country, and have my interview coming up.

My problem is that I am engaged to a US citizen that I have been dating for 5 years. We plan to marry in August of this year. I have been told that my J1 could be denied because of my fiance. Should I just not mention him on the DS-156 form? We haven't sent out invitations yet, but I don't want to be accused of giving false information. Could I just say I am dating an American, or that we were engaged and have since broken-up?

If I'm denied my visa, then we'd have to work towards a K1, and that could mean months before we'd get to be together. Anyone have any advice??
Thanks so much!

As far as I know, there is no space on the form that asks if youre dtaing or engaged. She is not your relative, legally so there is no obligation to mention her.

Be careful with J1 visa it is tricky and in some circusmtances would not allow you to adjust your status while in the US even if you do get married with your fiance... and K1 does not take that long
