I have a question for those of you who have faced this. Due to business travel needs, I am scheduled to be in Europe the week after my Interview for citizenship (and oath ceremony, if it coincides). At this time, I need to return my Green Card.

The US Passport takes a while to be issued, as I understand.

How do I travel in the interim outside the country? I can use my Indian passport which is stamped with my visas for Europe, but how do I get back in to the USA?

Any insights and help will be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Shoumyo.

You can't travel outside of US after the oath ceremony until you get your US passport. Apply for the US passport using expedited process (you can do that right after your oath ceremony) and show them your travel plans. You can't travel using Indian passport.

If the business trip is important, you can take your interview and request the officer that you take the Oath after 2 weeks (incase he says you are scheduled to take the Oath immediately). In this way you can travel with your GC. At the time of your Oath, they normally ask what you did between the interview and Oath and you can mnetion your biz trip.

Expedited passport takes atleast a week or more. Moreover if you are travelling to a country which requires a Visa (even if you have a US Passport), you will need to get fresh Visa as your Indian Passport is no longer valid and so visas stamped on them.
