OCI - When to send the US Passport to Indian Embassy

I applied for OCI to Indian Embassy in Washington. It has been 1 week now and the status is "Under Process" and "Documents received at WASHINGTON".

When should I send my passports for the U Visa & OCI registration Card to Indian Embassy at Washington?

Hello,
I currently hold and Indian passport (born in india), but have applied for US citizenship. Have been through the fingerprinting and an interview is coming up next month.

I want to be able to go to India at moment's notice if possible, so is there a way to simultaneously apply for OCI or do I have to wait to receive my US passport?

If so, what is the typical processing time for OCI application in US (California)? What about traveling to India while your OCI application is being processed? Is it possible to get a visa for India if required to fly back in an emergency situation?

You will need the US passport & Certificate of Naturalization while applying for OCI.

I don't know the timings for California, but it usually takes any where between 45 - 75 days (It depends on the processing center).

While your OCI is being processed, you can fly to India by taking an appropriate Visa.
