i am just wondering how long it takes to get receipt from UCIS once you send an application.

I think I did a mistake and i didn't do certified mail. I sent it via first class mail. It has been almost 3 weeks but I don't see my check has been deposited in bank.

I was wondering whether i should re-apply or wait..

I am not a lawyer, just an applicant for N-400 and after going thru several forums and threads here is what i gathered.

BTW:- get used to waiting :p

for normal processing here are the timings

on (date-x) you mail the application
in 2-4 additional weeks your check will clear the bank
in 1-2 additional weeks you will receive a receipt notice ( 3-6 weeks from date you mailed )
in 1-2 additional weeks you will receive a fingerprint note ( 4-6 weeks from mailing date)
Your fingerprinting date will be 1-3 weeks from when you receive your notice ( 5 - 7 weeks from when you send your application )
then you wait for 1-6 months and keep checking your status online at uscis.gov
about 6 weeks - 6 months from then you will receive a interview notice letter. ( 12 weeks - ~ 8 months ) ( if you are not stuck in NameCheck )
about 4-8 weeks after that will be your interview ( 16 weeks - ~ 10 months )
if you pass the interview, depending on DO, you may take the oath on the sameday or wait again for another 4-6 weeks to get the oath letter
the oath ceremony will be in about 3 - 6 weeks after you receive your oath letter.
then you apply for passport and wait another 2 weeks - 3 months to get it

so, anyhow, it looks like a 4 months to 1+ years of process depending on how each step goes
