Is the Application to the citizenship to be submitted exactly after completing 5 yrs on the Green Card Or can it be submitted couple of months earlier.

So, if I understand you correctly.. Submit the application after 4 yrs 9 months and wait for answer from INS? What are the next steps??

It is NOT 4 years and 9 months, it is 90 days or less than the 5 year anniversary of your green card. , which makes it more than 4 years and 9 months.

I'm in the same boat.Does anyone know if we would still get the fingerprint date after the eligibility date or is it possible to get it before. I want to know so I can plan my vacation to India

What do you mean by "eligibility date'? If you mean the 90 days less than 5 years, that is the eligibility date for applying. After that the oath can not take place before completing 5 years (or 3 years if applying as USC spouse). FP can go ahead any time without any restriction.

Thanks for the reply. By eligibility date, I meant that by June 19th 2008, my 5 years of residency in USA (with GC) would be complete.

So if I apply 90 days before, (which would be around March 20th 2008) what do you think the chances of the fingerprint date would be. According to recent info, most people falling under Vermont center are getting FP date within 4 weeks or a month. I was curious if I would get the FP date 4 weeks from March 20th or 4 weeks from June 19th. I needed to know this to plan a trip to India as I have to get my kid enrolled in school in May of 2008. Any info in this would be greatly appreciated.
