H4 to L1 Visa

I am currently on H4 visa in the US. I can get L1 sponsorship from a Indian IT company. I fulfill all the conditions for getting an L1.

Do I have to go to India to change my status from H4 to L1 ?

If I have to leave the US to get my L1 stamped, can I go to Canada or Mexico ??

Logically, Its not possible for one to convert from H4 to L1 as L1 is Intracompany tranfer and company must show that you are currently working to apply for L1 In the home country.

If you are in USA as a dependent and how can company show in different way.

You may need to go india and should try from there....But still there may be a problem as u got H4..becoz there was BREAK in the job as ur in usa..Possibly Resigned to the job. ...As you said u have the eligibility to apply for L1, ask Ur HR dept. abt this.
