Commute with a TN Visa

Hello all, I am a Canadian citizen who is moving to Windsor, Ontario. I'm near to accepting a job in Detroit, but have a few questions. I have an engineering degree from a Canadian University and will be doing engineering work, so I should qualify for a TN Visa under NAFTA. Is it just as simple as going to the point of entry with the proper documents and requesting TN status? I intend on living in Windsor, and commuting to Detroit everyday (like thousands of other people).
