ITIN Number From India

I went to US in 2003 for six months along with my wife.I forgot to get TAX ID for my wife.For better tax benefits i am including her in the returns.My question is how i can proceed to apply for ITIN from India.I have downloaded the W-7 Forms.
Will the consulate office give me the true copy of originals

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated
