Change of last name in passport after marriage

Hi,

We are getting married in India and were wondering
what is the best way for changing the last name in
my future wife's passport?

Is it sufficient to get the last name printed on
one the pages of the passport or do we have to obtain
a new passport for my wife.

How do we go about filing subsequent INS forms?
Is marriage certificate sufficient for me to add her
in my I-485 application with her new married name?

Do I also have to add her name in my passport?

Please respond with any helpful pointers/info.

You really do not need to change her name in the passport, but you can do it if you want.

If you do, however, you have to use that name in INS forms.

Whether they will amend the passport or make new one depends upon the regional passport office and the officer over there.

This policy has been changed by US Consulate. Now they are asking for the passport to be endorsed with the name change to prevent fraud.
