Is it legal, getting rental income on H1B Status.

I am in US on H1B since 1997. I recently brought a house, Iam paying mortgage every month. No plans to move in for another 6 months, now I want to rent it for some one. Is it legal to rent it, and getting a check for rent? Will it cause any problems in feature.
