Time validity for passport

Hi....Is there a specific time frame for passport to be valid for travelling from and returning back to U.S on H1 B visa? My passport will be valid for little over two months on the day of my return.Does it need to be valid for 6 months?Please clarify so that i can reconsider my plans of travel.Thank you so much

Yes, passport should be valid for at least 6 months, from the expected date of return.
