different birthdates on differnt documents

My parents, both file tax returns. ButI just happen to notice their birthdate to be something different on tax returns. According to my parents the CA they had 10 years back just put any date without asking them, which went unnoticed.

They have now applied to the income department to change their birthdate on their pan cards.

but the question is how do they explain this to the consulate. Will furnishing a affidavit help?

I don't think such issues matter much as long as names are matching. But you never know, it is so subjective, and any question or objection may be raised by consular officer.

Making an affidavit may help, if asked about it.
