The interesting part of this whole experience is that you don't need an attorney in the same state as you are in to work with your case. With email, overnight mail and the like...lots of conversations are had by phone and written documentation is done through email.
Lawyers like to document EVERYTHING so much of what you will do with them will be by email so dont get locked into thinking that you need an attorney in your state. They will schedule conference calls with you and the like---you will exchange some overnight packages with them but this can be done while in another state. I have an attorney in my case handeling my case but I have never met with them in person or been to their office. We exchange everything through over night mail (2X) and through email. We have probably had 6-8 phone calls and I am entirely comfortable with that.
Most attorneys will represent you in whatever state you are in from whatever state they are in----I am speaking strickly from a "Family Based Greencard" standpoint. I know things are a little different on the "employment based greencard" front.
Just my thoughts....
