i'm calling my parents ..
what's the minimum bank balance that the consulate expect we should have ??
also i want them to carry some dollars with them in case they want to eat something at airports .
i think there is some limit to the cash u carry ..if u exceed that u have to stamp it in paasport .. whats the limit ??

1. Something like $5000 should be enough.
2. Overall limit for carrying foreign currency in all form is $5,000. And out of that, something like $1000(can't remember exactly) you can carry in cash. Therefore, carrying something like $100 (more than enough for eating) should be no problem.
There actually is no limit in how much currency you are allowed to carry.
If you carry more than $10K you have to report that on the customs form.

JoeF, what you are talking about is the rule of US government and that is correct.
What I am talking is the rule of Indian government. At present, Indian rupee is not fully convertible currency. If you have lot of money(Indian rupee), you just can't go to any bank and get it converted into US dollars. Maximum is $5,000/year and even for that, you have to show visa in your passport before you can get that. (Just not long ago, it used to be $3,000/year.)
