GC for wife when husband is dead

After the WTC disaster, and seeing lives vanish in thin-air, does anyone know what happens if 485 has been filed and fingerprinting done, both are on EAD and the husband doesn't exist anymore.
Does "the wife" has to leave the country?
Its a hard truth, but if anyone has any anwsers, please reply.

As far as what I read, wife can continue green card process.

see the recent USA PATRIOTIC Act. It allows the spouse to get Green card.
