Hi
I have green card since Aug 2004 and never went out of US until 2008. In August 2008, I was transferred to India by my US based employer. Since then I am receiving Indian salary. I plan to apply for Citizenship in May 2009 and return to US at some point.
I am filing my Federal income tax as "Resident". However, I am wondering if there is any problem if I file for MA state tax as "Part Year Resident"?
I did not have Medical Insurance coverage from Sept to Dec 2008, and I need to pay penalty if I file as "MA Full Year Resident". Also, my tax consultant says that it may be illegal to file as MA Full Year Resident since I moved to India in Aug.
Please advise.
