ok, i just got a job in california and i just got my first pay check.

about 20% of my pay goes to tax.

can someone explain to me what the various taxes are and which ones i can claim back.

they are:
CA
CASDI-E
FITW
MED
SS

Taxes are taxes and nothing you can claim back.

Abbreviations that you are used in your paycheck that your employer has come up with and they are not standard.

I will try to see what I can figure out.

SS - Social Security Tax
MED - Medicare
CA - California State Tax
FITW - Federal Income Tax Withdrawl
You may get social security and medicare benefits after retirement.
