I've become slightly confused as to whether I need to apply for a Visa
or use the Visa Waiver Program. I live in Denmark, and am a British
citizen, therefore nationality-wise I am eligible. A problem has arose
in the fact during the VWP application I was asked if I have any mental
disorders - I do, as I have a history of mental illness. I looked
further into the terms for entering under the VWP and found out that you
only select yes to this question if you could have or have had violent
behavior associated with said illness. As my illness is Paranoid
Schizophrenia, I am unsure as to what to do. I have no history of
violence, no history or threats of violence, I have never been arrested
in my life. Is it possible for me to get a signed documentation from my
psychologist that I pose no threat and thus be accepted under the Visa
Waiver Program? Or should I apply for a Visa and a waiver of
ineligibility?

Also, how to I apply for a waiver of ineligibility if I must take this step?

As the ESTA application for Visa Waiver Program is online and there are no documents to be submitted, it would be best if you apply for regular visa.

Note:Travelers with mental illnesses can travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) provided that their condition does not render them a danger to themselves or others. They may wish to carry letter from their doctor to that effect to facilitate their entry into the United States.

I found this online - It seems like a possible soloution! :D
