I was arrested for a shoplifting that was classified as misdemeanor. This is my first ever arrest, never been arrested before, don't have any criminal records. I was taken to a police station, fingerprinted and then got court date scheduled on March 3rd. I'm a holder of a temporary green card waiting for adjusting my status to a permanent green card. I've got an attorney to represent me in court and he said that he will help me expunging that misdemeanor. I was wonder if after been fingerprinted at police station and then going to my biometric appointment (sometime this year) , to be checked against FBI records, will this show up on my record? Will this shoplifting cause me not getting my permanent green card in the nearest future? What is my best option in this situation and what should I do? I'd like to get my permanent green card but now I'm afraid that this will be complicated. Please help me !!!!!!

Shoplifting is CIMT and you need proper guidance from an attorney familiar with immigration laws. Any sort of plea bargain will also count against you when it comes to immigration. Seek proper legal counsel from an immigration as well as a criminal law attorney.

Petty exception may apply.
