Extending J1 Visa

Dear Sir,

I came to USA from India on August 10, 2010 on J-1 Visa to work as a visitng research scholar at University of California, Santa Barbara. My J-1 visa is valid till December 15, 2010 and the programme end date mentioned on my DS2019 form is February 11, 2011. I am told by OISS (office of international student service) at UCSB that I can stay up to 30 days beyond the valid end date mentioned on my DS2019 form. I am planning to stay till middle of February and I want to extend my J-1 vias till middle of February.

I request you to kinldy advise me the procedure to get my J-1 visa extended up to middle of February, 2011.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your advise. The date mentioned in my I-94 from at the port of entry was as per the DS2019 form. So I can stay up to Fbruary 2011 eventhough my US visa expires on December 15, 2010. Somebody was telling me that if I stay in US after the expiry of my Visa, I amy not get the Visa next time. PLease advise me on this.

There is no truth to this. Visa stamp is used only to enter the U.S.
