Hi all,
My wife's passport is expiring soon and I want to apply for
1. Renewal
2. Change of her surname
3. Include my name in her passport.

Can I do all these in one application? How much do I need to pay for it and what are the documents required for it.

please share your experiences

Thanks in advance
Ravi

All can be done in one application for the new passport for the new passport fee only. You need to present the marriage certificate.

hi txh1b,
Thanks for quick reply. At online application do I need to select 'Re-issue of passport' or 'fresh passport'.

Also site asks to submit spouse's passport also. Does this means will my wife's name will be added automatically to my passport or do I need to apply again for it. If so will I get another booklet or will it be added to same passport? (I recently renewed my passport)

Thanks
Ravi

Fresh passport. They do not add anything on your passport unless you requested it at the time of renewal. If you want, you ahve to pay for the service and they will note an observation. Why do you care about adding the name? I never had either of our names on our PPs.

hi txh1b,
One of my friend told that it is required if I plan to work at countries like Canada, etc.

Are there any advantages of changing surname and adding my name to her passport?

If there are no advantages of it, then I probably go ahead with normal renewal process.

Thanks
Ravi

I think it is just a matter of personal preference and choice. It is also a safety net in the event of some mishap to ensure that the proper power of legal heir be established that this can help with.

Other than that, I am not aware of any pros or cons that cannot be accomplished with a marriage certificate in lieu of the name on the passport.
