First Question: Single or married filing separate are higher tax rates than married filing joint on the same income. A married person will usually pay lower taxes than single.
Second Question: Your status of married or single is a matter of fact, on the last day of the tax year. You generally cannot file single if you are married and cannot file married if you are single. You don't really have a choice. You must be very careful as an immigrant when you file your taxes because much more is at stake than taxes. You have to consider your future in the United States.
Third Question: Look up W-7 on irs.gov. It has the instructions to get an ITIN.
