filing taxes for dependants

hi,

I have been in US for the last 7 months on L1 visa. My family (wife and daughter) is visiting me from october to february.

When do i apply for the ITIN# for the dependants. Do i need ITIN for both my wife and daughter? Since they will not be around at the time of filing the returns, what are the documents that i need to have to file income tax jointly.

If they don't live her and are temporarily visiting for a short time, I don't think you can claim them as dependents in U.S. tax returns.

If you can, you will have to apply for ITIN for each person, along with the tax returns.
