Hi all,

I am a GC holder, married to a US citizen for the last 5 years. I am eligible for US citizenship and have the following questions:

1. What is the real difference between a PIO, and an Overseas Indian Citizenship?

2. If I do get a PIO, or Overseas Indian citizenship, is there a way to regain full Indian citizenship if I renounce my US passport?

Thanks,
Omi

Dual citizenship is not yet available.

Only differences are ability to vote, join politics etc.

As an OCI you can live in India, and after a year, you can get naturalised. Yes, they would want you to renouce your US citizenship.

The same is true for PIOs and even long term visa holders, but the residency requirements are longer.

If you renounce the US Citizenship to ecome an Indian Citizen, Will you be considered as a 'US Permanent Resident' ( which you were before becoming a US Citizen ) ?

No, you can't be considered US permanent resident.

In other words, you would be back to same thing what you were before arriving in the USA. Just Indian Citizen.
