My wife has H1B and i have B1/B2. Can B1/B2 be used for temporary visit?

My wife has an H1B and will be in US from 20th of this month for a temporary period of 6-8 months. She is traveling from India. I live and work in the UAE I have a Multiple entry B1/B2 which got stamped in 2010 in India for a business requirement. The visa is without any annotation and i didn't travel to US before. Both of us are in same company.
I intend to visit her and do some sight seeing for 2 weeks while she is in US and come back to the UAE to continue my job.
Can i visit her for 2 weeks using my B1/B2?
Is H4 mandatory for this kind of visits?
What should my ideal visa category so that my entry is not denied?
I don't want to risk my visa at US port of entry.
If B1B2 is good, then what should i tell about the purpose of visit to CBP?

I have the same issue right now. I have an H1B and my wife has a B1 visa with no annotation. I want her to visit me for a month, hopefully in Dec.
I was wondering what you did and if there were any issues that you faced when coming to the US on B1.

Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.
