  • Form I-131 & Some Inquires

    Hi all,

I am a green card holder... I am in U.S since December 25th 2013, and i want to apply a re-entry permit for 2 years because i need to take care of my sick dad as i am the only son in my family.

    I have the following inquires:

    1) I haven't started a job in U.S since i have entered & I am not going to work in my Home Country as well so do i need to file federal income tax?

    2) Form fee is $360 & Biometric fee $85 so total amount is $445.. When i am preparing a check do i need to make two different separate check or just the total amount and under what name the check should be written?

    3) My location is Houston where do i need to send my I-131 forms and all the supporting documents as a express courier?

    4) Do i have to write the word Expedite in the top right corner of the application form I-131 if i want expedited processing?

    5) I will attach a cover letter, the form I-131, Copy of my I-551, GC copy and 2 Photographs ?? What else do i need to attach??

    Thank you in advance...

That is the correct address if you are filing from Texas (and certain other states). The address I posted earlier is for Express Mail or courier deliveries. I don't know what the "AOS" stands for, as it is just part of the posted delivery address.

Your cover letter addressing looks fine.

            Dear Ray B,

I finally submitted my I-131 (Re-Entry Travel Document) using Express Courier on Thursday and it was delivered on Friday around 3.00PM.

I also wrote EXPEDITE on the Envelope.

My question is what is the next step, i have not received any response from them and i also submitted G-1145 form... When will they update me on my case?

            Thanks alot.

You should receive a text/email confirmation that USCIS has received your I-131, followed by a hardcopy receipt Notice of Action about 3 weeks after you mailed the I-131.

A week or two after that, you should receive a Biometrics appointment notice. After you complete the Biometrics, you are free to leave. The Reentry Permit will be sent to the address you provide on the I-131.

I tried the website to check my Current Case Status using my Receipt Number but is says the below following message...

You will receive a postal-mailed notice of your Biometrics appointment a couple of weeks after you received the I-131 official receipt Notice.

The USCIS status website is notorioiusly unreliable, with many actions going unreported there.

Yes, after Biometrics, you are good to go. But make sure that you are clear on how your Reentry Permit will be available to you (Embassy pick up or mailed by someone in U.S.).

So long as you provided your contact information, the Embassy will notify you when they have the Reentry Permit. It will be at least a couple of months before the Reentry Permit shows up.

Filling out Form I-131 when filing with Green Card Application

I need some help. I am applying for my green card (form I-485) and I was told I can send in my Travel form at the same time. What do I write in the Date of Travel section? I have no travel planned but would like a reentry form so I CAN plan a vacation. Perhaps a cruise or a trip back to my birth country. I'm hoping to send off my application by september 2014. Then hopefully if I can get my Travel papers I was thinking of paying for a cruise as a Christmas Gift. The cruise wouldn't be until November 2015, I figured that should be long enough for me to get my Biometrics Appointment out of the way and maybe my interview. What do you think?????????

I-131 Reentry Permit Submitted and received official receipt (form I-797)

                              Hi
I filled petition I-131 Reentry Permit. I received official receipt (form I-797). I am a returning resident so I mentioned my new A- number only in the for I-131 and I provided a copy of my new Temporary I-551 Evidencing of Permanent Resident SB1 as proof of my LPR. I didn't mention about my old A number and didn't provide my old green card copy with the petition I-131 in the supporting documents.
                              My question is
Should i send them my Old green card copy with letter of explaining the new A-number and old A-number with the copy of Receipt I-797. by post to avoid any delay in my case.
                              Kind Regards
