  • Selective Services Question

    Hi,

I went to register with the Selective Services after having my I-485 approved. When I went to register, I was met with a message saying that I was already registered. I looked myself up with my SSN on their site and it has me listed as registered since August 2010. I had been on an F-1 visa at that point and it was around the time that I accepted a student worker position at my university. Does taking a job in the US result in being registered with the selective services? I don't recall getting any official notice or registering. The more important question is: will this cause issues for me with CBP or USCIS in the future, or is it just important that I'm registered?

    Thanks!

There are several ways one gets registered for the Selective Service without being aware. If you have confirmed that you are registered, don't worry about it and just move on.

I've seen at least one Naturalization client denied for not having registered, so that requirement is taken very seriously if you want to become a Naturalized citizen.
