H1B Extension

My current H1B expires on Dec 2014. Last week my employer started the H1B extension in premium processing. I am planning to go to India in Aug 2014. I am expecting the extension to get approved before Aug 2014. These are my questions:

1. If I get stamped based on my new I-797, will my new Visa start from Aug 2014 and extend till Aug 2017 or will it start from Jan 2015 and end on Dec 2017?

2. Is it a good idea to get it stamped in Aug 2014 or wait till my current Visa expires?

1. In my opinion the new visa will start from Jan 2015, as per newer petition dates.
2. I would say you dont keep a large gap between the two otherwise you might end up getting stuck in India till Jan 2015.
