  • Full time job on J-1 visa after completing Masters

I have few queries regarding working on J-1. I am currently doing a full time summer internship with a software company and got an offer for fall internship from another company. Currently I am on F-1 but my college doesn't allow me to do fall internship. An alternate that is being suggested is to take leave of absence and move on to J-1 Visa but since I am just remaining to do 1 subject/1semester to complete my masters, my college wont allow me go go back to F-1 either. I am told that i would have to complete my masters on J-1 itself. Is it possible? and would I be able to further do a full time job (I heard upto 18months minus the previous internship time?) on J-1 itself until I get my H1-B. My husband also currently works in US on H1-B but I dont want to go back to H4 dependent visa after studies. please suggest.

You should note that a J-1 may be subject to a 2 yr home requirement before you can convert to an H-1b. Not all J-1s
are subject to that but you must make sure .
IMO, changing to J-1 for a fall internship, may not be a good idea. Who has told you you could
complete your MS on a J-1?
