  • NAFTA specifications for Hospitality

I am a Canadian currently looking at options for employment in the US. I am a hospitality professional with a Bachelor of Hospitality Management and 12 years of experience in restaurants.

Under the NAFTA agreement, I could apply for a TN visa under the Hotel Manager category provided I can support that I have a.....

"Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree in hotel/restaurant management; or Post-Secondary Diploma or Post-Secondary Certificate in hotel/restaurant management, and three years experience in hotel/restaurant management"

My question is, as it stipulates I need a degree in hotel OR restaurant management, could I apply for a position as a restaurant manager in a stand-alone restaurant (possibly within a hospitality chain/group), or is that category very specific and the TN visa will only be approved if it is employment offered in a hotel AS a hotel manager? Any loop-holes or possible consideration if alternative conditions are met?

Any previous experience from any individuals or relevant information with handling this situation would be kindly appreciated.

    Cheers.
