I am currently working on F1 OPT, my EAD card expires on January 31st, 2016. I recently submitted documents to my University to get an I-20 which I can use to apply for my STEM extension.
After submitting my documents which included a copy of my EAD card I received an email from my University stating that the documents look fine but strangely my SEVIS record was never changed from "requested" to "approved" for my OPT in the first place.
My university has now request SEVP to update my status to reflect that I was "approved".
Upon researching online I found that the amount of time SEVP can take to fix an issue can be from a couple of days to a couple of months. My concern is if it takes such a long time how will I apply for my STEM extension in time.
If anyone has been in the same situation or know of anyone in the same situation I have 2 questions:
1. How much time did it take for SEVIS to update the record?
2. Is there anything else that I can do?
