  • Travelling Outside US with GC, and entering within 180 days

    Hi,
My mother received GC last year, and was in US for 8 months since then, she is travelling to India in May and may stay there till Nov' 2016.
So it may be @180 days she may stay outside US, please let me know if anything to be aware or prepare for return journey to US?
Please share your experiences if you see any issue or heard any checks at US immigration to enter using Green Card.
    thanks

follow up question to the 180 days limit..

what if the stay exceeds 180 days for a justifiable reason (Health, family urgencies etc..)? do we need to apply for Advance Parole?

It is a good idea to have the "Reentry Permit" if staying outside the U.S. for six months or more. But the requirement to have the Reentry Permit is only if you are outside the U.S. for 1-2 years, or if you have been advised to have the Reentry Permit if you have made frequent trips outside the U.S.

Hey, you must aware about 6-month rule of a sort; It means, she has been abroad for under 180 days.
If not, she needs to apply for a reentry permit to entering the U.S. Form I-131 is used to apply for a reentry permit.
