  • Expiration Of SEVIS Fee

    Hi,

I need some clarification regarding SEVIS fee.
Last year AUGUST i paid sevis fee, however i didnt get my F1 Visa last year.
So i postponed my university course to this year for which i got I-20 too.

In the SEVIS website i read a line which says " If the applicant is unsuccessful in obtaining a visa, he/she may apply again for the same or different program within 12 months without having to pay the SEVIS fee again".

According to that statement my SEVIS didnt expire yet, however My SEVIS ID for which i paid the fee last year is different from the SEVIS ID of this year because i got a different I-20.

So can i use that old SEVIS Fee for this year also even though my SEVIS ID for this year is different??

Your answer will be of gr8 help,
    Kindly Reply,
    Deepthi.

Sevis fees goes by Sevis ID. I am guessing you need to pay a new fess as your SEVIS ID changed on the I-20. Ask the DSO from the school.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

      Hi,
I am also in simialr situation but waiting for I-20. I guess eventhough I-20 is different sevis number should be same. So that we dont need to pay it again
for same school. Anyway, please let me know your situation.

            SEVIS Fee Transfer

            Hi,

This is reply i got from the SEVIS Department after sending them a mail requesting for SEVIS Fee transfer.

"We have accepted and processed your request to transfer your SEVIS I-901 fee. The updated fee payment information will be recorded in SEVIS on the new SEVIS ID and on the website at www.fmjfee.com. You will also be sent an updated I-797 receipt reflecting the fee payment transfer to the requested SEVIS ID. If your updated I-797 has not arrived in time for your visa interview, you should take with you a copy of your original SEVIS I-901 fee receipt, the original Form I-20 or DS-2019 used to pay it, and this approval for the fee transfer request. "

            Regards,
            Deepthi
