  • Query regarding F1 Visa

    Hello,

I'm in the US and currently working on L1B visa.
I have been accepted to the renonwed university in the US for Fall 2010.
The Univ will send my I20 form to my Indian address by Mid or end of May 2010.

I'm planning to leave US for India by last week of May 2010 so that I can work towards applying for F1 Visa from India.

    My questions are:

    1) The university wants to see the requisite amount needed before issuing the I20 form. Since I was in the US for 3 years, I have some savings in the american back in the US. Can I show that amount in US dollars to the university ?

OR Do I need to go transfer these dollars in India and then calculate the indian rupee amount with with the exchange rate of the day ?

    2) If I show my dollar amount from the US bank during the visa stamping, will the american consulate question me about the validity of the amount ?

Please let me know. I need to make a decision soon.

You can show any bank statements to the university. Based on whose statements you show, the univ will write appropriate source of funds on your I-20.
At visa interview, you can show any money belonging to that source of funds. (If source is student's own funds, you can show either Indian accounts or American accounts belonging to you)
For F1 visa you have to show property, family ties to your home country. Prepare the answer to the question why you will return to India on completion of program.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

      Thank you.
I do not have any property but the apartment in Pune belongs to my father.

      Queries:

      1) Can I show the valuation of that property ?

      2) Is it necessary to show the property documents even after a student has own money in the bank for the first year of the program ?

      3) Can the visa officer in the consulate ask about how will a student pay for the second year ?

      4) What kind of family ties document do they need ?

      Please let me know.
