  • Visa for US Citizen Kids of NRI parents

    Hi,
Is it true that kids who are US citizens and have parents or Indian Origin, will now need an 'Entry Visa' as opposed to a 'Tourist Visa' to visit India?

Travisa, the company to whom Indian Embassy has outsourced the Visa processing, claims that is the new rule that has come into effect starting May 5, this year.

    -Thanks

All Persons of Indian Origin, Spouses and Kids of Persons of Indian Origin must apply for Entry Visa and not Tourist Visa.

An Entry (X) visa is granted in the following circumstances:
Applicant is a person of Indian Origin
Applicant is a spouse or dependent child of a person of Indian origin.
Applicant is a spouse or dependent family member of a foreign national coming to India on long term visa such as Employment, Business, Research or Student. In such cases, the visa duration granted is co-terminus with the period of the principal visa holder.

Tourist Visa Prohibitions: Applicants who meet the following criteria should apply for an Entry (X) visa, NOT a Tourist visa:
    Persons of Indian origin.
Spouse and dependent children of a person of Indian origin.
Spouse and dependent family members of a foreign national coming to India on long term visa such as Employment, Business, Research or Student.

The tourist visa will be OK through its stated term, but when it expires the next one will need to be an Entry visa.
