SSN delay due to name mismatch

HI..I have a long name ..say first name as "A B C" and last name as "X". While entering my details in i-94, as my complete name cant fit in the form, i have entered "A B" as first name and "X" as last name. I applied for SSN 3 weeks back with "A B" as first name, "X" as last name and "C" as middle name. Now I am told by SSA that there is a mismatch in my name and hence the delay for assigning the SSN.

Passport
--------
First Name = A B C
Last Name = X


Visa
----
First Name = A B C
Last Name = X


I-94
--------
First Name = A B
Last Name = X


SSN Application
--------
First Name = A B
Middle Name = C
Last Name = X


As you can see, passport and visa has correct entries. I-94 has shorter version as the complete name doesnt fit there. To match the I-94's entry, I broke the complete name into first name and middle name in SSN application.

Please tell me how to proceed now? I am in deep trouble.

Yes. It got resolved finally. It took about 4-5 weeks to get my SSN. Keep following up with the SSA office where you have applied. There is nothing we can do, until they give us any pointers why the application has got struck and if there is anything we do anything to fasten the process. I always received same answer - "The application is with INS. We cant do anything unless they come back to us"

SSN Delay due to name mismatch

Hi,

I applied for SSN on Nov 10th. After 4 weeks i have applied for SSN, i checked I-94 status on line and came to know that my first name is wrongly updated. I went CBP office corrected my name went back to SSN office on Dec 16th and explained them that there is a name correction in I-94.

The concerned SSN officer she said she will resend my application to Immigration dept for clearance. Its been more than 3 weeks after that i didn't receive my SSN. When i call them they say i have to wait. Overall its been 2 months still i haven't received my SSN.

Problem with my last name, the whole name doesn't fit in the field provided in the SSN application. They said they adjusted my name in middle name but they mentioned it in a comment explaining to the immigration officer my name is too big to fit in the fields.

How long do they take? Is there any way to fix this problem or to approach immigration? Lot of unknowns at this point, please help.

Hi Sai,

My problem is not solved yet. It took very long time for me and still I didn't get my SSN. I have a problem with my name in SSN application, my complete name didn't fit in the fields so some part of the name was adjusted in middle name. And this is the reason immigration clearance got delayed.

Check I-94 first name character length, I think you should be able to give your complete first name in I-94. It accepts 25 characters. If possible go to CBP office and get your name changed in I-94.

In SSN application ask the SSN concerned officer to mention in comments or in a note saying that according to passport and visa xxx is the first name as the field is not accepting the complete name it is adjusted in first name and middle name.

When you have big names or name mismatch getting SSN is painful process you don't find any online status to track your application. Every time you call SSN office they say they are waiting for immigration clearance. Better visit SSN office every week they have many cases like this so they may neglect your application.Some times if luck favors, you may get it in 2-3 weeks and sometimes it may also take 2-3 months.

hi i recently applied for SSN and at the counter i was said that the first name and middle name were put together in I-94.But i guess i should not have filled the middle name column in SSN application from.
Below is what is there in different documents.

passport:
First name: ABC
lastname:x

VISA :

I94:

First name: ABC
lastname:x

i filled the SSN form as below:

First name: A
